In the center of Lacan’s teaching, the category of symptom. At the same time, the notion of clinic, the theoretical concept and the ethical principle. Even being present from the beginning to the end, Lacan’s approach is far from being unanimous. In its first classisism, language structure is taken into consideration ; it i initially presented as a metaphor; at the end of the trajectory, it is as letter, function jouissance of the uncounsious, that he presents. Well, metaphor and letter do not equate with each other, not to mention that this tension crosses Lacan’s teaching and all debated it has generated. On the other hand, it is not a matter of simply choosing between metaphor or letter in order to isolate the structure and the symptom’s function. It is from the examination of these numerous questions raised by this oposition and the indications which make way to considerations about the end of analysis, that this contribution is concerned about.
