No. 15 (2007): Family and the unconscious I
In listening to the "infantile" dimension in his patients, Freud discovered the unconscious and observed that they spoke incessantly about their families. If civilization is constituted through the clash and necessary opposition between generations—where neurosis testifies to the impasse in breaking free from parental authority—psychoanalysis reveals that the family transmits not only rules, but also the signifiers and the linguistic misunderstandings that weave the subject’s destiny, intertwining the unconscious, family histories, and symptoms.
In this 15th volume of the journal *Stylus*—a biannual publication of the Association of Forums of the Lacanian Field (AFCL) dedicated to the theme "Family and the Unconscious I," the central focus of the 8th National Meeting held in Aracaju—psychoanalysts and researchers investigate the family not as a mere social or biological arrangement, but as a psychic reality. Through conceptual reflections, dialogues with literature, and clinical vignettes, this edition examines how signifiers and the parental web structure the transmission of neurosis, the impasses of desire, and the subject’s symptomatic responses.
