  • Family and the Unconscious II
    No. 16 (2008)

The family has changed, but what remains of it? Amidst contemporary social transformations, new parental configurations, and novel ways in which the law intervenes in interpersonal bonds, there is much talk of a "crisis" or the "end" of the family as an institution. Yet, from a psychoanalytic perspective, the family remains alive and continues to fulfill its structuring role.

In this 16th volume of the journal Stylus — a publication of the Association of Lacanian Field Forums (AFCL) — psychoanalysts and researchers examine the family not as a rigid biological or legal form, but as a construct of psychic reality and a site for the transmission of lack, desire, and the unconscious.
