Based on Freud’s Constructions in Analysis (1934) and The Seminar, Book 1: The technical writings of Freud, by Jacques Lacan, this study aims to demonstrate clinically the interdependence of the concepts of “construction” and interpretation. In his text, Freud questions what analysts do in their clinic and states that an analysis taken from an arrogant knowledge of the analyst is, to say the least, a clinical imposture. Making use of the power of transference to persuade or even convince an analyzed about his/her history is what cannot be expected from an analysis. In Constructions, the historic and material reality themes are made explicit and we can verify, among other things, that the delirium and the hallucinations are not restricted to psychosis. Constructions in analysis confirms that a construction does not occur without an interpretation. The difference resides in the fact that interpretation takes place from an isolated fact, as a lapse, whereas the construction confronts the subject with a fragment of his/her primitive history. Lacan affirms in The Seminar, Book 1 that Constructions… encompasses the entire Freudian theory, which has instigated us to investigate it.
